When we saw on Twitter that Marc Lacatell would be shooting the Paradise show last Thursday for Glide Magazine, we started following him so we would know when his photos were published. After checking out our site, he contacted us and offered to share some exclusive photos after the show. We got to meet Marc briefly at the show, and not only is he a great photographer, he is also a really nice guy. After seeing this "sneak peek," we are excited about receiving some exclusive photos after his review goes live on Glide! We'll share them as soon as we can!

Post concert mornings hurt. The adrenaline from the show keeps us from being able to sleep, and there's always a little tinge of sadness that the show has come to an end. Fortunately, we have three more The Lone Bellow shows to attend in upcoming weeks. And after last night's show at the Paradise, we are completely confident that we do indeed have something to look forward to!
Admittedly, it was with slight trepidation that we found ourselves at the front of the stage last night, waiting for the show to start. After all, it was the last Paradise show that turned us into full blown fanatics, and we knew there was no way this show could live up to that one. The show opened with Zach coming onto the stage alone to sing "To the Woods." It was lovely. But it was also different. The rest of the band joined the stage to perform "Cold As It Is," which was, of course, flawless, but also confirmed for us that this was, perhaps, going to be a different kind of show. With Kanene taking on the keyboards and bass guitar (is there anything she can't do?), and a collection of new songs, we just weren't sure of what to expect. As it turns out, we really had nothing to worry about. They sang all the songs from the new album except for "I Let You Go," and several songs from their first album. We were also lucky enough to get quite a few impromptu covers: Whitney Houston, The Proclaimers, and Joe, just to name a few. This show was a little light on the banter, compared to previous shows, but we did learn that there were no CDs at the merch table due to the USPS not being able to deliver them because of all of the snow. In lieu of CD's, the Pipkins made Valentine's to pass out to fans. (Sadly, we did not receive one.) The show closed with the band in the middle of the crowd, leading us all on "Teach Me To Know." We love when that happens. While we were disappointed that we were not able to chat with the band afterward (the staff at the venue was not about to let that happen), we can say that we left that show feeling like we always do after a Lone Bellow show: completely in awe of what we just experienced. In spite of our ability to ramble on about the band, it really is impossible to put into words what it is like to see The Lone Bellow perform live. They so obviously love what they do, and they are so, so good at it. Last night they didn't hold anything back. There was so much jubilant energy coming from the stage and it was highly infectious. We're not really sure how they manage to pull off such an amazing performance every single time, but we are sure happy that they do! I lived in Delaware for a couple of years. Delaware is...interesting. Going by the "if you can't be kind, be quiet" rule I'll just say that I miss a few dear people that I befriended while living there, and I really miss having WXPN on my radio dial. It's a real gem of a radio station. Yesterday, they hosted The Lone Bellow for one of their "Free at Noon" shows. Fellow fan and friend, Holly, was lucky enough to be in attendance, and she shared some photos with us. If you'd like to see more pics and hear a recording of the show, click here. And if you were also lucky enough to be there, we would love to hear about it!
Mara also took this video of The Lone Bellow performing an unreleased song, "Jessica." It's catchy, and I've found myself singing the chorus more than once! Thanks, Mara!
WFUV hosted a private show with The Lone Bellow on Monday night at Rockwood Music Hall. Mara, a fellow fan who has shared with us in the past, was lucky enough to attend and took some photos. And we found this snippet of "Watch Over Us" from the show on Instagram.
WillMcD posted the setlist over on Tumblr. Meanwhile, we are excitedly waiting to see them at the Paradise on Thursday!
Now that the lucky passengers aboard the Cayamo Cruise have returned home, we are able to see, with a little help from Youtube, what went on on that boat. We've pulled some of our favorite videos from the voyage, and hope you enjoy them, too! If you were on the boat, we would love to hear from you! Up first, this video of The Lone Bellow doing a cover of The Judds song, "Grandpa", with another one of our favorites, Brandi Carlile. And we never tire of seeing them perform "Watch Over Us"- gosh, Brian's voice on this song does something to us! Earlier in the week, we posted a link to the Front Row episode about The Lone Bellow show at the Paradise back in November 2013. While the episode was great, and it was so fun to relive moments from that show, we were disappointed they didn't include some of the encore from that night. There is no doubt we would have been hooked on them just from the main part of the show. Their music, passion, and the connection between the band members and with the audience was evident, and absolutely drew us in. But the encore sealed the deal. Their silly banter and, um, interesting song choices made us laugh and smile so hard. The Lone Bellow takes their music seriously, but they clearly have so much fun performing, and they aren't afraid to be goofy, or to put themselves out there for the audience. Fortunately, Chris Van Slyke from the blog Boston Through My Eyes was smart enough to video most of the encore so we can share it here. In November of 2013 we were making our way to a The Lone Bellow concert at the well known Paradise Rock Club in Boston. On our way in, a man stopped us to ask if we were going to the show, and then asked if we wanted to be part of a movie about the band. Feeling cold (because we stupidly left our coats in the car parked several blocks away), and in need of some pre-show coffee, we told him “no thanks” and went on our way. As it turns out, that show was hands-down the best performance either of us have ever attended, and it is solely responsible for putting us on the path to The Lone Bellow concerts addiction. We regret not having been part of its recording, but at least here it is for us to look back on (minus the band’s fabulous encore which was a montage of songs from 90’s movies). If you haven’t seen this yet, make sure to check it out. You won’t be disappointed! |
